It's A Man, Baby!!

Here's a link so y'all can call NBC and ask them why the hell they're promoting this son of a bitch's new book.

Some Stuff I Watched Over The Holiday

Oh, the awful memories this documentary brought back. This follows several high school seniors in Warsaw, Iowa. The popular, and the not so. It's a great reminder of why I don't miss high school one bit. It also made me cringe because my oldest child starts ninth grade in August. Yikes.
A film worth watching, for sure.

This movie is soooooooooo good. I have a thing for films about the Vietnam war. This is based on a true story which makes it even more fascinating. Christian Bale was incredible.

Some cute and odd stuffed creatures from Areaware.

There's something about Rufus Wainwright's voice that just gets me. Beautiful song. Beautiful version.
I still haven't seen I'm Your Man, but it's on my short list.

12.14.2008

My husband and I watched this last night. I had seen it before, he hadn't. He liked it and I was amazed how good this film is even the second time. It has a few contrived-feeling moments, but these moments still succeed because they're part of such a great whole.
I felt like squirming in my seat during certain scenes because I was reminded of those moments in my life when I have had a racist thought or judgment. It's nothing I'm proud of; I just think this film is so important for that reason......It really makes one aware of mistakes some of us have made. Let's hope a lot of the racist prejudices and stereotypes portrayed in Crash will someday soon be a thing of the past.

I am in love with these Camper boots. They are kind of odd and spat-like. So cute.

If You Thought Joe The Plumber Was An Idiot........

OMG. Why did I even read this article from the Huffington Post? Some losers shouldn't even be given the time of day once.
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm having campaign flashbacks!

12.09.2008

I read this book to my two youngest kids last night. It's a sweet, hilarious love story about an unlikely pair.
Pete, the pig loves his simple, organized life. When Pickles , the elephant enters the picture, she complicates his life in ways he never imagined........but he ends up loving her nonetheless.
Sounds like a lot of real love stories out there!

12.08.2008

Who doesn't love Zooey? Her voice is so retro and cool.
My kids and I watch this movie every year around this time.

Does anyone else who's read this book think Robert Pattinson is a strange choice for the film? Isn't Edward supposed to be beautiful?? Pattinson is verging on ugly, I think. Sorry........

Someone Get Me These Boots........Quick!!!!!!!!

This photo is from Lucky. Great boots. Kinda look a little like cockroaches, but I love them.

Chelsea Handler Says What I Think

I just finished reading Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. Not the most challenging read, but the woman does tend to crack me up.

Fluevog Fetish

I've loved John Fluevog shoes as long as I can remember. Years and years ago I used to get the catalogs in the mail and I would drool over all the cool shoes and boots.
Their collection has changed a bit over the years. They still have that funky splayed out heel and uniquely shaped toe boxes, but maybe it's just me.......there's not as much variety anymore. Still some very cool looks though.

This Guy Can Move! (SO Funny)

I wish I could have seen this movie on the big screen. It is visually beautiful. The wardrobe is amazing. Lee Pace couldn't have been more handsome. See it!

What's The Deal With The Linus Blankies?

These kids look traumatized or something. Can you say "issues"????? Maybe being on a reality show and having a weirdo like Denise Richards for a mom takes its toll after a while........

Food Porn

........That's what my husband calls it. He says I'm torturing myself with my new obsession - looking at pictures of food. Tastespotting is one of my favorite sites for food porn. The photos are just amazing and some of the recipes are so creative.
One more week of this crappy liquid-only diet, then I'm on to retirement home-style dishes (mushy stuff). I've had it with V-8, Carnation Instant Breakfast and soup without bread!

Say It Isn't So!!

I just heard that one of my favorite shows, MAD TV, is going to be cancelled after fourteen great seasons. My husband, son and I look forward to watching it every Saturday night. I can't even stand to watch SNL anymore. The skits are painful to watch....they're SO bad.
Most of all, I'll miss the great Bobby Lee (above). He could just stand there and I would laugh hysterically.

OMG This Stuff is Great!

I have read about this Monistat Anti-Chafing stuff for months on different makeup blogs (No, it's not for yeast infections!). Apparently it works great as a primer because its primary ingredient is dimethicone.
I decided to splurge and spend $6 (that is ridiculously cheap when you consider how much primers cost) and I'm so glad I did. I applied a pea-sized amount all over my face before my Bare Minerals the other day and actually got a compliment on my skin for the first time in years.
I love new discoveries like this!

11.08.2008

I saw this on Mr. Furious and just had to share it. Check out his blog if you get a chance. It is great. His rants remind me of my husband's. Love it!

Happy Happy I Am!!! And Full of Joy!

What a great day to be an American. I can't wait to see what the next four years hold for us. This is a dream come true!! VIVA OBAMA!!

I'm F@#$%&* Starving

I was watching Everyday Food today on PBS. It made me so hungry. Everything looked so good. They cooked a couple of the dishes above (spaghetti carbonara and orecchiette with lentils and arugula). I have a serious weakness for pasta, so it was like torture to watch.
Food just isn't the same when it's blended. It has to be viewed, smelled, bitten, chewed and savored. Enough of the pity party. In five weeks I'll chow down.

Where Has Mary Karr Been All My Life?

You must read this book. It is an incredible memoir. Mary Karr's language is so simple yet so eloquent. This is one of those books I hated to put down at bedtime.

I 'm Addicted To This Site!

Check out Swaptree, if you haven't already. It's such a great concept! Do you have a bunch of books sitting around that you've already read and you're not sure what to do with them? Well, this website allows you to set up an account for free and you simply post books you have available for trade. You can also post books you want and Swaptree will email you if a trade becomes available. Or.......you can search through hundreds of books (DVDs, CDs, and video games too!) that are available to trade immediately for the items you are offering. Shipping labels can be printed directly from the site. Users have ratings similar to the ones on eBay.
I have already swapped five times and have gotten some great books.

Post-Surgery Photo....Yikes

My 13-year-old son took this photo with my phone. Sorry for the poor quality.
My face is three times its usual size here! (A few hours after surgery). The pain is pretty much what I expected after having my jaw bones sawed through on both sides............ouch!
It's very strange not being able to chew or lick food, (As I mentioned before, my jaw's wired shut.) Food now looks twice as delicious as before.
I went on Google Image Search to find some pictures of fat Monica on Friends, because that's exactly what my face looks like now! I couldn't really find any good pictures of her, but I'm sure many of you remember.
Anyway, I'm grateful surgery went well and that my awesome aunt and husband have taken such good care of me.

10.20.2008

My Surgery's Tomorrow

I may not post for several days. I'm having orthognathic surgery tomorrow. I have a slight underbite (about 5 mm or so), and it needs to be corrected. My jaw will be wired shut for four weeks and then held shut for two weeks after that by rubber bands.
Sounds like fun, huh?
Anyway, it's being done mainly for medical reasons (headaches, jaw and neck pain, tooth problems), but I'm looking forward to the cosmetic results as well. I'll lose some weight too, which I don't mind! Of course I'll be on a liquid diet for the entire 6 weeks. I should get my braces off in April or so.
It's been such a long process! I can't wait to smile and finally be happy with what I see in the mirror.

Please Watch This

Boycott KFC. Their food sucks anyway.
Here's the video everyone should see.
So sad.

I Looooooooooove Randi Rhodes!

This Show is a Trip

I just started watching season one of Mad Men. How our standards have changed!
I don't know how accurate of a portrayal this is of upper middle-class white life in the 1950s, but it's kinda depressing from a woman's perspective!
Not much was expected of us other than the menial shit, and if we actually did go out and get a job there was sexism up the wazoo.
We've come a long way, but there's still a way to go.
(The wardrobe is great, by the way.)

Sorry for the long absence.........
I've had the flu or some other cold virus thing.

Do You Know One of These?

It's kind of scary. I actually know someone with a split personality. Sweet as sugar when necessary, bitter and evil as sin when the mood strikes. People like this can actually function in our society without their true colors being seen. Sometimes this facade can hold strong for years and years.
When we finally see the monster that's been hidden all this time, we are taken aback, disgusted and sometimes disappointed. More often than not, we feel betrayed and angry. Maybe time will issue forgiveness, but we will never forget!

So Disturbing.....

Thank you Mr. Furious.

10.02.2008

It breaks my heart when I see dogs tied to sign posts, etc. This blog is interesting though. It's filled with photos of just that.
I would be so worried that someone would steal my dog or that it would squirm out of its collar and I would walk out to see nothing but a leash.

I Found My Costume!

Scare all the liberals on your block this Halloween with the new Palin latex mask!!!

10.01.2008

Oh, Elisabeth. You're Such a F%^*!$@ B*%#@!!!!!

Bless Dogs

Mary-Laure from Aurea created this cute logo for those of us lady bloggers who are lucky enough to have pups. I have three female pooches myself: Luna, Yma and Frida. I will post photos of all three soon. Dogs are the best.

Debate Drinking Game?

If McCain wins the election, I will be drinking myself into a stupor nightly. Anyway, tomorrow night if he does decide to debate Obama, I think it would be nice to get into the spirit by playing a drinking game.
I will take a swig:
Every time McCain mentions his military service.
Every time he says, "My friends".
Every time he says our economy is fundamentally strong.
Every time he defends Sarah Palin.
Every time he pumps his fists.
I could go on, but I have to work Saturday morning.
